    Mediation Tournament

'Strathclyde Law School students were in action in the UK's second ever Mediation Tournament in late 2009.  Hosted by Liverpool John Moores University, the Tournament brought together 13 law schools from England, Scotland and the USA.  Each team was judged on two mediations, with judges assessing such qualities as 'peacemaking', 'active listening' and 'patience and persistence'.

The event was a very positive experience for our team of three - Claire Ionta, Rachel Robertson and Helen Turner, who came a creditable 5th out of 13. The four teams with higher scores were all postgraduates, with the winning team coming from Orange County California.  The Strathclyde team also secured an invitation to the next International Mediation Tournament, to be held in Chicago in March.

Head of the Law School, Professor Mark Poustie stated “I would like to pay tribute to our mediation team and their achievements here along with their coach, Charlie Irvine.  I hope the UK Tournament will become an annual event in which the Law School can develop the kind of excellent reputation it already has for mooting.  I also look forward to the team’s involvement in the International Mediation Tournament in Chicago and wish them every success in that event”.’
