Professor Alan Paterson Appointed as a Member of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission

Professor Mark Poustie Head of the Law School stated “We are delighted that Professor Alan Paterson has been confirmed by Kenny Macaskill, the Justice Minister, as one of the members of the new Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC). Professor Paterson, who is the Director of the Centre for Professional Legal Studies at Strathclyde (CPLS), is the leading academic expert on the regulation of lawyers and the provision of public legal services in Scotland and this appointment is recognition of his very considerable experience and expertise in these fields. Professor Paterson will be continuing as Director of CPLS and his other roles at the Law School and we wish him well in his new part-time role.“

The SLCC is a new, independent, complaints handling body which will receive and deal with complaints which cannot be resolved at source. The SLCC is expected to become operational in October 2008 and will be convened by Jane Irvine, who is currently the Scottish Legal Services Ombudsman.
