Welcome

The Centre for Sentencing Research aims to develop, disseminate and promote the study of sentencing, punishment and society.

Study and Dissemination

As well as conducting empirical funded research projects, the Centre also disseminates the study of sentencing and penal issues through The Sentencing Observer (SO). Going out to over 1400 sentencing-interested people world-wide, the SO is a unique bulletin and networking resource for scholars, judges, social workers, policy officials and voluntary organisations.

In recent years, the Centre has organised and hosted highly successful International Conferences  which have brought together leading academics, senior policy officials, judges, practitioners, directors of voluntary organisations.

The Centre is also closely engaged in the Master’s Programme in Criminal Justice which is available either through full-time or part-time study. The Centre is commencing a regular series of seminars and short conferences  for the local criminal justice community of practitioners, academics and voluntary organisations. The Centre runs a programme of Visiting Fellowships  to assist persons (academics, judges, policy officials, practitioners or others) to engage in advanced study at the centre.
